How it works
Read at your own pace.
Start with a free classic, pick a novel every week, or open the whole library for $1 a month.
Step 1
Start free
One novel is open to everyone. No account, no card.
Step 2
Pick weekly
Sign up and pick any novel. Every 7 days you can swap it for a new one.
Step 3
Read it all
$1 a month opens the whole library, two novels at a time — up to two new ones every day.
Who can read what
- Visitors
- One featured novel is open to everyone — no account, no card.
- Free members
- You have one reading slot. Pick any novel right after you sign up. Seven days later you can pick another — it replaces the one in your slot. If you don't pick, your current novel stays open; unused weeks don't add up.
- Subscribers
- The whole library for $1 a month, two novels at a time. Each open novel sits in a reading slot. Every day, when your reading day starts (midnight in your time zone, or a time you choose on your Account page), both slots can be swapped for new novels — so you can start up to two new novels a day. If you don't open anything new, nothing closes.
- After a subscription ends
- You're back to one reading slot, holding the novel you opened last. Seven days after your subscription ends you can swap it for a new one, and again every 7 days after that. Resubscribe any time to get both slots back.
Questions
What is a retelling?+
A faithful new telling of a classic in clear, modern English. Same plot, same characters, same heart — easier to read today.
Are the original books really free to use?+
Yes. We only retell works in the public domain, whose copyright has expired. The retellings themselves are our own work.
An example of reading slots?+
Say your reading day starts at 6am. On Monday you open A in the morning and B late in the evening — both slots are now in use. From 6am on Tuesday you can swap both: C takes A's slot and D takes B's. Then you wait until 6am on Wednesday.
Can I change when my reading day starts?+
Yes — on your Account page, once every 15 days. It starts from the next day, so changing the time never gives you an extra swap. If you never choose, it's midnight where you are.
How do I cancel?+
From your Account page, via “Manage billing”. You keep full access until the end of the period you paid for.
Can I track what I've read?+
Yes — mark a novel as read at the end and it moves to your Read tab. The library can be grouped by year or by author.
