Terms of Service
These terms apply to The Reteller website and any app we release ("the Service"). By creating an account or buying a subscription you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. Who we are
The Service is operated by Dragutin Djokovic, 11080 Beograd, Serbia ("we", "us"). You can contact us at support@thereteller.com.
2. What The Reteller is
The Reteller publishes retellings of classic works whose copyright has expired (the "public domain"). The original works are free for everyone, but our retellings are our own original writing and are protected by copyright. We own all rights in them, as well as in the design and software of the Service.
You may read the retellings for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, republish, sell, translate, record, share your account with others, or collect the text by automated means (scraping, bots, bulk downloading), except for short quotations as allowed by law.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
- Give us a real email address and keep your password secret. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- One account is for one person.
4. Free access and plans
- Visitors can read the novels we mark as free, without an account.
- Free members have one reading slot: they can pick a novel after signing up, and swap it for a new one every 7 days.
- Subscribers can keep up to two novels open at once and swap them for new ones each day, from a daily time they choose (midnight in their time zone by default). The time can be changed once every 15 days.
- When a subscription ends, the account returns to one reading slot.
The details are on our How it works page. We add, update and occasionally remove titles; a subscription gives access to the library as it is at the time, not to any particular title.
5. Subscriptions and payment
- A subscription costs $1.00 per month, plus any sales tax or VAT that applies where you live. The price is shown before you pay.
- The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
- Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle is the Merchant of Record for all our orders: it handles payment, invoices, taxes and customer service for billing, and Paddle's Buyer Terms apply to your purchase.
- If we change the price, we will tell you by email at least 30 days before it applies to you. The new price applies from your next renewal, and you can cancel before then.
6. Cancelling
You can cancel at any time from your Account page ("Manage billing"). Your subscription then stays active until the end of the period you have paid for and does not renew.
7. Refunds
See our Refund Policy. In short: you can get a full refund within 14 days of any payment.
8. Acceptable use
Don't misuse the Service: don't try to get around the reading limits or access controls, interfere with the site, create accounts in bulk, or use it for anything unlawful. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms. If we close a paid account for a reason other than a breach, we will refund the unused part of the current period.
9. Availability and changes
We work to keep the Service available but can't promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change or improve features over time. If a change significantly reduces what paying subscribers get, we will tell you in advance and you may cancel and receive a refund for the unused part of the current period.
10. Liability
The retellings are literary works provided for reading. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (for example for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud), or your rights as a consumer under the law of the country where you live. Otherwise, our total liability to you for any claim related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is significant we will notify registered users by email or on the site before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Serbia. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you may bring claims in your local courts.
