Victor Hugo

“Paris, 1482: a beautiful street dancer, the deaf bell-ringer of Notre-Dame, the archdeacon who raised him and a handsome, careless captain are caught in a web of desire and cruelty around the great cathedral.”

“Released after nineteen years in the galleys for stealing bread, Jean Valjean is transformed by a bishop's mercy, raises an orphan as his own, and is hunted across France for twenty years by the policeman Javert — from the provinces to the barricades and sewers of Paris.”
